The Only Way

Do you believe that Jesus truly is the Son of God? Do you believe that what He says is the truth? In today’s Gospel, Jesus himself proclaimed that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. If we do believe, then why do we not always follow what He says?

We currently live in a society where there is a lot of noise, where everyone’s opinions seem to be heard around the world with a simple click of a button. While it is good to respect other people’s points of view, it is even more important to carefully discern and compare any information we receive against the truth of Christ. It may also be helpful to remember that what we see on television or the internet can be manipulated to suit a particular party’s agenda. At the same time, just because someone is popular does not instantly mean that he is an expert. I remember the first time I saw the slogan “love wins”, I asked myself what does it mean for love to win. Jesus taught that we are to love God with all our heart, soul and mind, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Loving God comes first. And to love Him is to obey His commandments (1 John 5:3).

We sometimes encounter people who believe there are different paths to get to Heaven. Jesus tells us that there is only one, and that is through Him. He showed us what love is by dying on the cross so that we all might live. And that’s what love is, that is how love won.

Today’s Gospel

Jn 14:1-6

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back again and take you to myself,
so that where I am you also may be.
Where I am going you know the way.”
Thomas said to him,
“Master, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”
